The Cartoonmuseum Basel—Centre for Narrative Art (CMB) is presenting its exhibition programme in 2026. The current retrospective Paradis perdus for French illustrator Christophe Blain runs until March 2026 and showcases one of the most virtuoso comics artists of our time.

Founded in 1979, the CMB remains the only Swiss institution dedicated exclusively to narrative art, attracting visitors from all over the world. Next year, it will showcase important artists in the field of the ninth art, including José Muñoz (Argentina), Emil Ferris (USA) and Barbara Yelin (Germany).

The following section presents the positions that, in addition to artistic innovation and literary uniqueness, address socially important issues: Argentine Muñoz tells of social injustice, Ferris shows the search for identity with everyday and fantastical challenges, while Yelin has dedicated herself to telling the untellable and Formica experiments with image and text.

José Muñoz: March 28–June 21, 2026
Vernissage: March 27, 2026, 6:30pm

Argentine comics artist José Muñoz (b. 1942) uses stark black-and-white contrasts for narratives ranging from dramatic crime stories about detective Alack Sinner to a sensitive biography of jazz legend Billie Holiday. Originals, sketches and colour works present him in a comprehensive retrospective.

Emil Ferris: July 4–November 15, 2026
Vernissage: Friday, July 3, 2026, 6:30pm

Emil Ferris (b. 1962) of the USA is among the most important of contemporary comics artists. Her distinctive ballpoint pen drawings impress with their expressiveness and offer profound insight into the human psyche. This exhibition presents originals, objects and children’s books.

Barbara Yelin: November 28, 2026–March 7, 2027
Vernissage: November 27, 2026, 6:30pm

Comics artist Barbara Yelin (b. 1977, Munich) is known for sensitive, atmospherically dense, drawn and painted graphic novels. She thinks politically and often addresses her themes in gripping portraits. This, her first major solo exhibition, features originals, independent works and illustrations.

Hope to welcome you soon at Cartoonmuseum Basel—Centre for Narrative Art!
