Opening of the Berlin Pavilion

The Gaza Biennale Berlin Pavilion is pleased to invite the public to the opening event on November 21, 2025 held within the main exhibition space at Flutgraben e.V. The full exhibition program, centered around the work of over 30 Gazan artists, will continue to unfold over the weekend and the following four weeks across venues throughout Berlin including AGIT, Khan Aljanub, Alternatives Denkmal für Deutschland, Galerie & Atelier Arabisk, Casino Café Clinic for Social Medicine, Spore Initiative and KM28, as well as around the streets of Berlin.

Defying genocide, Gazan artists have continued creating—they resist seemingly endless displacements, bombardments and forced starvation through their art. The Gaza Biennale, initiated in partnership with the Al Risan Art Museum (the Forbidden Museum) in the West Bank, scatters their messages like seeds around the world, dispersing them through local networks of solidarity to create new hybrids. Transcending geography, the Gaza Biennale expands across a human topography that cannot easily be besieged.

The participating artists of the Berlin Pavilion transform their uprooting into acts of multiplication: Yasmeen Al Daya began making portable sculptures to carry with her through each forced displacement; small enough to hold in one hand, each sculpture contains a universe. Hala Eid Alnaji’s Nazeh Lexicon (2024–2025), centered around a monumental map of Gaza, acts as a memory device recording Gazans’ lived topographies of fear, separation, silence and exhaustion. Ghanem Al Den provides a set of instructions to realize his site-specific installation The Rocket and Carrot (2025) in Berlin that narrates the interlocking systems of aid and war keeping Palestine under colonial control. Ola Al Shrif launches her augmented reality work Al-Shadidah (2024) onto Neukölln’s Hermannplatz, embodying the desire to move beyond fear, walls and imposed limits, making absence and hope visible, and transforming survival into collective imagination.

These are only a few examples of the artists and works presented within the Berlin Pavilion. The exhibition is the product of overwhelming popular support. It is realized solely through the effort and personal engagement of numerous volunteers, exemplifying the power of collectivity to overcome repressive institutional structures.

With a collaboratively curated public program, the Gaza Biennale Berlin Pavilion invites people of all ages and backgrounds to join in talks, workshops, screenings and other gatherings to practice listening, healing and mourning; share joy and sorrow; and cultivate a communal strength that will ultimately be the key to dismantling oppressive systems based on fragmentation and extractivism—structural relics that lie at the root of the occupation of Palestine and colonial violence worldwide.

The Berlin Pavilion seeks not to become a static exhibition but an evolving platform that continuously initiates its own actions. Refusing to lament the failure of official infrastructures, the Berlin Pavilion builds a new one: an infrastructure made from and by the community, small in its constituent parts but endlessly expansive in its unity.

At the center of all of this stands Palestine. The gravitational force that brought us all together—not just for a single moment of time, but for generations to come. It is the artists in Gaza who lead the way for this unity with their courage, creativity and endless will to flourish. We hope you will join us to celebrate their work.
