Marshmallow Laser Feast: All That Is Unseen

Through a series of interactive and immersive artworks, a new exhibition at the Media Majlis Museum at Northwestern University in Qatar makes the invisible forces that sustain life tangible. All That Is Unseen is the first major exhibition in Qatar and the wider region by London-based artist collective Marshmallow Laser Feast. Curated and produced by ACMI, Australia’s museum of screen culture, the exhibition examines a crucial, universal question: how can we perceive, value, and protect the systems on which life depends?

Featuring ten distinct artworks developed in collaboration with ecologists, neuroscientists, and philosophers, the exhibition brings scientific research into dialogue with immersive storytelling. It reveals realities that lie beyond the scope of human perception and transforms abstract knowledge into embodied experience. Comprising major video works on a grand, awe-inspiring scale, guided meditation, and evocative works on paper, the exhibition does not simply communicate scientific knowledge; it gives visitors new ways to feel, interpret, and understand it.

Visitors enter the exhibition carrying their own memories and lived experiences. The artworks build on those personal perspectives, encouraging a deeper understanding of the natural world and of each visitor’s place within it. Some works ask you to look up. One asks you to close your eyes. Most ask you to slow down, because the systems that sustain us are too vast, too abstract, or too intimate to grasp at a glance. In this way, the exhibition turns perception itself into a form of inquiry.

For decades, climate scientists have been unequivocally clear about the reality of climate change. Art operates by different principles: it can make that reality personal, emotional, and difficult to ignore. An encounter such as this cannot solve the climate crisis on its own, but it can reshape the crisis’s meaning for individuals—and, through that shift in understanding, influence how they imagine and undertake future action. To pursue this connection between knowledge and response, all the works featured in the exhibition were developed in collaboration with an extraordinary network of artists, filmmakers, musicians, and scientists, including filmmaker Terrence Malick, the late producer Edward R. Pressman, Cate Blanchett, Daisy Lafarge, Jon Hopkins, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Meredith Monk, Howard Skempton, and Jonny Greenwood.

All That Is Unseen arrives in Doha following an international tour. It was originally presented at ACMI in Melbourne and was most recently exhibited at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington. The exhibition is on view at Northwestern Qatar’s campus in Education City, Doha, from October 5, 2026, until January 21, 2027, Sunday to Thursday, 10am–8pm. Admission is free and open to the public.
