Basel 2026 edition

Following its most successful edition to date, VOLTA returns to Basel from June 17–21, 2026, entering its third decade as a platform for emerging and mid-career contemporary art. Located just a two-minute walk from Art Basel and Messeplatz, VOLTA 2026 will present 70 galleries from 26 countries, reinforcing its position as a key international meeting point for discovery.

This edition highlights experimental curatorial practices in the new section FRISCHE!, expands cross-cultural dialogue through the thematic pavilion Everywhen: Contemporary Aboriginal Art, and continues to strengthen its commitment to the Swiss arts ecosystem with 18 participating Swiss galleries.

Everywhen: Contemporary Aboriginal Art
VOLTA’s 2026 thematic Pavilion, Everywhen: Contemporary Aboriginal Art, explores Indigenous concepts of time as a continuum in which past, present, and future coexist simultaneously. Rooted in more than 65,000 years of cultural history, the Pavilion presents contemporary Aboriginal artists whose work connects ancestral knowledge with current artistic practice.

Participating galleries include Galerie Arts d’Australie.Stéphane Jacob (Australia), Knight Fine Art (Australia), Bay Gallery Home (UK), Atelier du Temps (Switzerland), KG Contemporary (Switzerland), Coe Gallery (UK) and Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery (UK).

Artists represented include foundational voices such as Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, Emily Kam Kngwarreye, alongside contemporary peers Arthur Jalyirri Dixon, Tanya Van Haren, and Naomi Hobson, and others. Many of the featured artists are held in major institutional collections including Tate Modern, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, and the National Gallery of Victoria.

The Pavilion is curated by VOLTA Artistic Director Lee Cavaliere, with advisory input from Indigenous curators and experts including Stèphane Jacob, Jasmine Coe, Sixtine Crutchfield, Dr Catherine Kineweskwêw Richardson, Theresa Burkhardt, Rebecca Hossack and others. Frische!
A new section for 2026, Frische! showcases eight galleries presenting bold, experimental and curatorial-forward practices from emerging international voices.

Participating galleries include: Donna Art (Taiwan) Chong Gallery (Switzerland) Cascade Art Concept (Australia) Art in Dongsan (South Korea) The Space Art Gallery (Israel) Galerie Sechs (Switzerland) HeLai Art Gallery + Art Fungible (Switzerland) LIGHTWORKS (Australia) Creative Growth (US).

Returning & new galleries
VOLTA welcomes returning exhibitors including Galerie Barbara von Stechow (Germany) and Rukh Art Hub (New York), alongside Stone Step Art (Ireland) who exhibit with VOLTA for the first time in Basel. New participants such as 99 Loop Gallery (South Africa), Filafriques (Switzerland), Galeria HGZ (Mexico), Galerie Charlot (France), and Aifa (Switzerland).

In partnership with This is Basel, VOLTA continues its tribute to its founding city. Basel residents are invited to attend the fair with complimentary access from June 19–21, 2–4pm.

The 5000 Edit: Introducing New Collectors
For 2026, VOLTA introduces The 5,000 Edit: a curated selection of artworks priced at and under CHF 5,000. It is a response to the thriving segment of the market, as the under 50,000 USD category continues to offer both resilience and a vital entry point for new and evolving collectors.

​The 5000 Edit is designed to make collecting more accessible for new or younger collectors, while supporting artists at a crucial stage in their practice. Bringing together over 20 galleries, the diverse selection of works is available to view and purchase online. This initiative builds on insights from the “Under 50,000 USD Art Market report”, produced by ArtTactic and Ramsay Fairs with VOLTA, which underscores the importance of fairs as places of discovery. VOLTA remains a longstanding springboard for the emerging market—where you can encounter new artists and make informed and meaningful acquisitions.​
