Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) is a groundbreaking not-for-profit institution dedicated to promoting and preserving contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. The museum’s iconic architecture and custom designed spaces, designed by the UK’s Heatherwick Studio, tell the story of its transformation from 42 historic grain silos into the groundbreaking museum it is today. Multiple galleries feature rotating, temporary exhibitions with dedicated space for the permanent collection; the BMW Centre for Art Education; and the Atelier, a project space for artists living and working in Cape Town. About the role
The Chief Institutional Advancement role reports to the Executive Director. The main purpose is to support the Executive Director by providing overall direction on key advancement strategic imperatives, leadership, and management of the Institutional Advancement team.
Requirements
–Fluent in English in business verbal and written language.
–Internal and external presentations and public speaking.
–Travel local and international.
–Attendance at evenings and weekend hours as needed for special events is required.
Responsibilities
This role will also lead and manage the Fundraising, Patronage, Memberships, Events, Global Council, Marketing and Communication departments.
Strategy and planning
–Develop an overall sustainable strategy for development and fundraising, events, global council, patronage, donors, membership, communications, and marketing, aligning with the organisation's overall mission and goals.
Fundraising and resource development
–Development of Zeitz MOCAA's funding strategy according to its mission, governance requirements and which meets the contributed income goals (individual, foundations, and the government), both for annual giving and major gifts.
–Oversee and lead all fundraising programmes and donor activities, including annual giving, major gifts, corporate and foundation grants, and special events.
–Responsibility for ensuring a sustainable fundraising strategy that involves a rounded approach to raising donor support in keeping with best practices in this field.
–Orchestrate, generate and lead fundraising, and attract funding nationally and internationally.
Relationship building
–Develop, deepen, and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, donors, sponsors, Zeitz MOCAA Global Council members, business, institutions, the city, and partners locally and internationally.
Communications, marketing and events management
–Drive the development of a marketing and communications plan for the museum aimed at increasing attractions and visitation.
–Develop an Eventing strategy that drives Eventing sales and Eventing programmes.
Management and operations
–Responsibility for the leadership, oversight, performance, coaching, and development of the Institutional Advancement team, comprised of both experienced professionals and talented young people who need to be mentored and supervised.
Qualifications
–Masters in Business Administration or Masters in related Degrees is desirable; Communications, Business Management.
–Background in art and visual culture, and familiarity is desirable.
