Digital archive
A Nomadic School is a digital platform and archive that expands and enhances the experience of the Nomadic School, a pedagogical project rooted in the Alpine territory, curated by Filippo Andreatta and produced by Office for Human Theatre [OHT]. As the actual School, the archive brings together scientific and artistic content, promoting a trans-disciplinary knowledge. It has been developed with Studio Folder and supported by Fondazione Caritro, in partnership with MUSE—Science Museum and TSM—School for Territory and Landscape Management. Currently at its seventh edition, the School first occurred around OHT’s caravan Little Fun Palace. The nomadism of the caravan became a geographical, artistic, and methodological approach, capable of constantly reinventing its own models in order to reflect on what emerges when the Performing Arts are taken outside institutional spaces and practiced as a process of contamination with surrounding environments. Located at more than 2,000 metres above sea level in the Alps of Trentino Alto-Adige/Südtirol, the Nomadic School brings together a community of participants and mentors who, for a fortnight, share study and life, experimenting ways of knowledge at high altitude. Alongside the situated experience, the archive develops the desire to open further possibilities for critical elaboration, making traces and fragments accessible within a broader temporal and territorial horizon. A Nomadic School archive contains traces of events, mnemonic fragments, study materials, and an extensive photographic documentation by Giacomo Bianco, returning an overall picture in constant movement. A non-narrative structure emphasises the synchronicity of presences and allows multiple readings and assemblages of the School’s programmes, contributing to the creation of new relationships and trajectories among alpine landscapes, mentors, participants, artistic and scientific practices. A performative and vital dimension, capable of connecting different artistic practices while keeping processes of reflection and study alive. At the same time, the archive is a space of preservation that continuously negotiates itself with the anti-conservative tension underlying both pedagogy and performance. A digital archive connecting with the bodies of who have passed through the School over the years; traces and minor memories embedded in people and places are relaunched into the future and into the School’s still-un-exhausted potentialities.
About Office for a Human Theatre
OHT is a research studio founded by Filippo Andreatta and working beyond the domain of Performing Arts by collaborating with festivals, theatres, contemporary art museums, public administrations, science museums and underrepresented realities. In 2024, OHT has been awarded the “Italian Council for international publication” by the Ministry of Italian Culture for a book on the Nomadic School published by bruno, Venice.
