Haute école des arts du Rhin (HEAR) provides higher education in the arts to 750 students, offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in visual arts, music, communication and design across 20 specializations. Today, HEAR operates across multiple sites in the cities of Strasbourg and Mulhouse (France). It hosts weekly events—exhibitions, concerts, symposia, festivals, lectures, or performances—at its own venues (including La Chaufferie, an exhibition space located just a few meters from the main building) or elsewhere in Alsace, France, or abroad: HEAR aims to be an open, dynamic institution enriched by its many partners.
Position: Graphic Design and Digital Cultures / Location: Strasbourg, France / Working hours: Full-time: 16 teaching hours/week plus participation in juries, committees, educational meetings, etc.
Under the authority of the Director of Studies, in conjunction with the Graphic Communication teaching team, and within the bachelor's degree (DNA) and master’s degree Graphic [ · · · ] Languages programmes, the Graphic Design and Digital Cultures successful candidate will be responsible for:
–Teaching graphic design and digital media practices (interfaces, ergonomics, web, multimedia, electronic publishing, generative publishing) as well as 21st-century graphic design culture and, more generally, digital culture (social networks, internet, websites, electronic publishing, open source culture, generative AIs, etc.), including their social, societal, political, historical and, more generally, theoretical implications
–Teach programming languages (HTML + CSS + JS, Python/PHP/Java appreciated), algorithmic principles, web protocols and screen layout
–Supervise written theses and degree projects in graphic communication, particularly for the master Graphic [ · · · ] Languages
–Take part in HEAR’s research programmes and contribute to their definition
–Contribute to the development of the curriculum (by helping to define educational objectives, design the course outline, credit grids, etc.)
–Be involved in inviting visiting artists and guest lecturers and organise lectures, seminars, exhibitions, publications at European level
–Facilitating partnerships with other institutions involved in education, creation, production, and distribution, particularly abroad
–Participate in student evaluations, graduation and entrance committees, and educational meetings.
Qualification
A recognised professional in the field of digital graphic design, committed to their work, with a strong interest in education, and holding a master’s degree from an art or design school or its equivalent. The candidate should be willing to engage in a collaborative project and demonstrate international professional experience, ideally at an art school.
Skills and qualities
Knowledge:
–In-depth theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of digital graphic design
–Very good knowledge of current cultural, social and theoretical issues in the field of communication, visual culture and digital media
–Teaching in English.
Expertise:
–Ability to pass on knowledge
–Ability to develop progressive teaching methods adapted to different levels, enabling students to develop their autonomy
–Ability to develop partnerships and contribute to educational guidelines
–Ability to monitor developments in digital media, tools and resources, particularly in graphic design, and ability to question them.
Personal qualities:
–A team-oriented mindset is essential for this collaborative, team-based project
–Rigour and method: Excellent organisational and coordination skills
–Autonomy, sense of initiative.
Expected interview date: June 2026 / Start date: September 15, 2026 / Type of appointment: Public servant or non-permanent public sector employee / Grades: Art teacher (Professeur d'Enseignement Artistique in the French system), standard grade to senior grade.
