Beginning in fall 2026, Ox-Bow School of Art & Artists’ Residency invites artists of all levels and disciplines to apply to spend two to four weeks in dedicated creative practice during Ox-Bow’s quieter seasons. Residencies are offered each year in September, October, November, March, and April, with dates scheduled around campus programming. Applicants are encouraged to indicate a range of availability in their application.
Residents enjoy a contemplative, self-directed experience on Ox-Bow’s historic campus, with private dorm-style accommodations, one family-style dinner prepared each weeknight by the Ox-Bow kitchen, and shared kitchen access featuring a stocked pantry with breakfast and lunch staples. Participants have their own dedicated, simple studio space, making this experience ideal for artists working independently in drawing, painting, writing, and other mediums that do not require specialized equipment as our specialty studios are not open during this timeframe.
The cost is 1,200 USD for one week; 2,200 USD for two weeks; 3,200 USD for three weeks; or 4,200 USD for four weeks and a portfolio application is required. Please complete the form below to express your interest.
As an artist-built and run school and residency, Ox-Bow School of Art & Artists’ Residency is dedicated to the time and space for arts education, research, practice, and community-building for artists at all stages of their artistic journey. Founded in 1910, Ox-Bow’s egalitarian and intimate environment encourages all artists, regardless of experience, to find and amplify their impulse to create. Faculty, Visiting Artists, Residents, staff, and students live together in community on our campus in Saugatuck, Michigan, where they share meals, social time, and the exchange of ideas. We actively encourage our participants to engage across differences in age, regional location, race, and gender identity, learning what it means to be a community by participating in one. Ox-Bow is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization.
