The last trimester of 2026 activities of Institution(ing)s, programmed by Universidade Católica Portuguesa, include a series of international public presentations, residencies and labs in Lisbon, and the launch of a strand of online activities that will continue until 2028. Many other activities are being organised by all partners and can be found here.

Three online campaigns, developed by Rita Ouedraogo (Other Frequencies), Kathrin Böhm (Economic Fairness), and Dehlia Hannah (Climate Action), expand the project’s participatory and advocacy dimensions.

Mónica de Miranda—Jardins da Princesa
September 2026–October 2028

Seed archive and community garden: Online; MAC/CCB—Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Centro Cultural de Belém; HANGAR, Lisbon.Developed within Mónica de Miranda’s broader project Jardins da Princesa, this research unfolds in both physical and digital forms. The initiative encourages reflection on the ecologies of the urban periphery and on collective practices of care, cultivation, and knowledge-sharing, linking environmental awareness with social engagement. Activities include a two-day workshop led by actor Hoji Fortuna that explores representation through the body, movement, and performance, on September 8 and 9 at Quinta da Princesa. See here for all activities of the seed archive.

Breathing Room at MNAC—Museu do Chiado
In early 2027, MNAC—Museu do Chiado will launch the Breathing Room, an initiative of the Museum developed in collaboration with institution(ing)s. Conceptualised by Fermenta Associação / A Avó Veio Trabalhar, an association that understands age as a power to be unleashed, in collaboration with CRID (Centre for the Rehabilitation and Integration of People with Disabilities), the project will create a space for rest, gathering and connection, open to everyone.
The space will host public programmes and a reading area, offering an environment for visitors to pause, spend time together and engage with the Museum in different ways.
Breathing Room is co-curated by Filipa Oliveira, director of MNAC – Museu do Chiado, and Luísa Santos, director of institution(ing)s.

Open call for a cookbook
As part of Mónica de Miranda’s seed archive, we are creating an online cookbook that gathers recipes from across the African diaspora, tracing the journeys of seeds through generations, geographies, and kitchens.  We invite individuals, families, cooks, storytellers, and communities to contribute recipes that use at least one seed, fruit, vegetable, or plant from the Seed Archive. Editors: Alyse Kaweng Fan and Anika Borko (PhD and MA students of Culture Studies / The Lisbon Consortium). Editorial coordination: Luísa Santos. Deadline for submission: December 31, 2027. Details on the open call here.

Open call for the online glossary
Edited by Cindy Sissokho and designed by Denise Santos, the glossary is a digital platform that will continue to reflect and think through the coexistence of contemporary cultures with the ones that are either lost, erased, or endangered as they continue to be persecuted and ought to be revived — what are the languages we want to dismantle within our diverse vocabularies, or those we want to be loudly shared and acknowledged? Details on the open call here (ongoing).

Presentations and workshops
December 17

School of Conceptual and Contextual Practices, Kunstakademiet, Copenhagen. Luísa Santos, artistic director of Institution(ing)s, will give a workshop and present the project at the School of Conceptual and Contextual Practices in December. Addressing MA students, the session will introduce the project’s conceptual and methodological framework for 2027.

Publications
In the last semester of 2026, we will launch various publications, including The Regenerative Institution Toolkit, edited by Jule Kurbjeweit, and Policy recommendations for art institutions, galleries, and residencies to ensure equal access for artists and cultural producers who are parents, by Mia Degner.
