The School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University is pleased to welcome Margaret Honda as the Fall 2026 Audain Visual Artist in Residence. Honda will present a solo exhibition titled Film Posters in the Audain Gallery, deliver a public lecture on her practice, and screen her film Color Correction (2015) at The Cinematheque.
Film Posters is an ongoing project that Honda began in 2014 when she started screening her films. The posters are stand-alone artworks. They are often made independently of actual screenings and are intended to be viewed without the films. As film posters, they are unconventional. They show no images and offer minimal information, simply providing facts such as the title, director, date, location, and running time.
For this residency, the Audain Visual Artist in Residence (AVAIR) program is working in collaboration with The Cinematheque to support the screening of Honda’s film Color Correction. With the work presented in its intended cinematic context, audiences can experience it through the temporal, spatial, and collective social conditions that cinema provides.

She has participated in many international group exhibitions, including the 2026 edition of The Whitney Biennial. Her films have screened at the Berlinale, Courtesane, TIFF, S(8) - Mostra de Cinema Periférico, Svenska Filminstitutet, Anthology Film Archives, Centre Pompidou, La Cinémathèque française, and Harvard Film Archive. She received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2022 and her works are in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Carnegie Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and Centre national des arts plastiques, France. This exhibition is Honda’s first solo exhibition in Canada. margarethonda.com
About AVAIR
The Audain Visual Artist in Residence (AVAIR) program brings artists and practitioners to Vancouver who have contributed significantly to the field of contemporary art and whose work resonates with local and international visual art discourses. The visiting artists interact with the students and faculty of the School for the Contemporary Arts as well as the broader visual arts and cultural communities and the community-at-large. In keeping with the experimental nature of the School for the Contemporary Arts the terms of engagement are open and change from artist to artist. The cornerstone of the residency is the sharing of artistic research. The program is generously funded by the Audain Foundation Endowment Fund.
