The international artists of the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam open their studios from November 19–22, 2026.
This autumn, the Rijksakademie once again welcomes visitors to its annual Open Studios, taking place during Amsterdam Art Week. From 19 to 22 November, 48 residents and 5 tech fellows will present their artistic practices and share the outcomes of a period of experimentation and research. Over the course of four days, visitors gain access to the artists’ studios throughout the building. To complement the studio presentations, the programme includes performances, screenings, talks and temporary interventions that offer insight into the manifold artistic practices being developed by the artists within the Rijksakademie.
This edition marks the first Open Studios with Laurence Rassel, who was appointed director of the Rijksakademie in March 2026. Previously, Rassel served as director of erg (école de recherche graphique) in Brussels and Fundació Antoni Tàpies in Barcelona, bringing extensive international experience across artistic practice, research, education and institutional development.

Tech Fellowship Programme
The Rijksakademie’s Tech Fellowship Programme fosters inquiry into making through exchanges between tech fellows, technical specialists and residents. During Open Studios, the ongoing situated research of the print, media, library & collection, eco and paint fellows enters into dialogue with a printed archive from current and previous fellows who have shaped the programme over its five editions.

Rijksakademie residency
The Rijksakademie is an international artist-in-residence programme. Over the course of two years, a diverse and multidisciplinary group of artists is given the time, space and resources to develop their work, supported by national and international advisors who help broaden their perspectives. The Rijksakademie’s workshops and the collaborative approach of its technical specialists enable artists to test new methods and develop innovative and interdisciplinary ways of making art. The programme creates a unique environment for the exchange of art, knowledge and ideas, contributing to the continued presence of international creative practitioners in Amsterdam. The Rijksakademie maintains an extensive global alumni network that grows with each new generation of residents.
Amsterdam Art Week
Rijksakademie Open Studios takes place during Amsterdam Art Week (18–22 November), when more than 75 galleries, project spaces, museums, residencies and other art initiatives across Amsterdam open their doors to the public. Together, these venues present a diverse programme of exhibitions, performances, screenings, talks and artist presentations. For five days, the city is dedicated to contemporary art and becomes a meeting place for artists, art professionals, collectors and art lovers from all over the world.
