Senses Enchanted / Yanik Soland: Walking on Rubber Eggshells

Kunsthaus Baselland is pleased to announce its fall program following its curatorial approach of positioning the diverse contemporary art of the Basel region within an international discourse as well as to strengthen emerging positions. With the cooperation Senses Enchanted realized together with the renowned Contemporary Art Collection ”la Caixa” Foundation Kunsthaus Baselland presents some of their exceptional works in dialogue with artists who have close ties to the Basel region. For the exhibition devoted to perception numerous works have been developed site-specifically for the architecture of the new building. In the upper galleries, the artist and musician Yanik Soland will present new works created over the past few months and conceived specifically for his first institutional solo show. Both the extensive sound work, as well as several sculptural installations and drawings will be presented for the first time. A new performance together with befriended musicians will take place on the evening of the joint opening.

It is a great opportunity. The artists selected and invited to participate in this exhibition, Senses Enchanted, come from Basel and the surrounding region as well as from Canada, Spain, England, Italy, Brazil, Germany, and beyond. Thanks to the collaboration with the renowned ”la Caixa” Foundation, it has been possible, for the first time, to present works by Geneviève Cadieux, Esther Ferrer, Douglas Gordon, Cristina Iglesias, Anish Kapoor, Ernesto Neto, Tobias Rehberger, and Soledad Sevilla in these exhibition spaces. Together with Maya Rikli, Giacomo Santiago Rogado, Hagar Schmidhalter and Rémy Zaugg they create a parcours through the Kunsthaus that invites visitors to navigate the galleries in new ways. The exhibition's title, Senses Enchanted, evokes the desire to move among the artworks with all the senses, almost as if riding on a wave, while allowing oneself to be moved in return.

Yanik Soland: Walking on Rubber Eggshells

The first institutional solo exhibition by Basel-based artist and musician Yanik Soland (b. 1990) is devoted to a multidisciplinary practice that spans sound, sculpture, and performance. At Kunsthaus Baselland, Soland has created a new exhibition that, for the first time, brings together his longstanding exploration of the intersections between sound, material, and space. It also asks how sound can be exhibited, how it can be made visible or experienced physically. As part of the exhibition, the artist's second solo album will be released on vinyl by Futura Resistenza, Brussels/Rotterdam.
