The School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) sits within the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (COHASS), Asia’s leading centre for interdisciplinary humanities, arts and social science research and teaching. Much of our research follows four interdisciplinary priorities: Digital Culture and Society; Health, Culture and Society; Global Asia; and Art, Science and Ecology.

ADM is rooted in a studio-based learning model and reads globally established theory and practice through a contemporary Asian cultural context. It offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art, Design and Media with four specialisations: Animation and Game Art; Cinematic Arts; Communication Design and Photographic Practice; and Transversal Design: Object and Interaction. Graduate degrees include the MA and PhD by Research in Art, Design and Media, and the MSc by coursework in Game Design Art and Technology. ADM faculty are expected to sustain their creative practice alongside scholarly research aligned with the college’s research directions.

The position
NTU invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure-track) in Interactive Media at ADM. The successful candidate will lead research, creative practice and teaching in Interactive Media, and contribute to ADM’s undergraduate and graduate curricula.

Areas of interest include one or more of the following: creative technologies for interactive media art, including immersive installations and responsive environments; XR (virtual, augmented and mixed reality); game design and ludology; audio-visual creative coding and programming for interaction; innovative interfaces, devices and robotics; machine intelligence and machine learning-based artworks; performance and stage projects; media-based interventions in public space; media architectures; software art; generative art; and environmental art. Practice that integrates world art traditions, addresses environmental or socio-political concerns, or critically examines the cultural and ethical dimensions of emerging technologies is especially welcome.

Key responsibilities
Establish a research and creative-practice agenda in Interactive Media, secure competitive funding, and produce exhibitions, performances, installations, peer-reviewed publications and other creative outputs.

Develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Interactive Media, including creative coding, XR, interactive installations, innovative interfaces and generative art, and update curriculum in line with developments in the field.

Supervise undergraduate Final Year Projects and studio coursework, and supervise Masters and PhD candidates.

Contribute to the Interactive Media Pathway and the wider BFA programmes, foster collaboration across ADM, COHASS and the University, and engage with industry partners and the wider creative community.

Take on teaching and administrative duties aligned with a research-intensive university.

Requirements
–A PhD (or practice-based PhD) in Interactive Media, Game Design, Digital Arts, Media Art or a closely related field. A terminal MFA (or its equivalent) will also be considered; in exceptional cases, an MA with substantial practice-based industry experience.
–Significant professional, industry and/or creative-practice experience in Interactive Media or a closely related field.
–A strong exhibition record in media arts and/or publications in reputable peer-reviewed international journals.
–Research funding secured as principal investigator is preferable.
–A proven track record of teaching and mentoring is preferable.
–Strong collaborative, communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration.
