Solidarity in Flux is a cross-Baltic collaboration exploring contemporary manifestations of solidarity in the artistic and cultural narratives of the Baltic region and beyond.

Taking place during the closing days of the 2026 Venice Biennale, the event examines the forms, limits, and possibilities of collective action in today’s fragmented geopolitical landscape through performance, dialogue, and visual storytelling.

Initiated by the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art (LCCA) in collaboration with a number of other leading Baltic art institutions—the Estonian Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) and National Gallery of Art (NDG) in Lithuania—the project highlights regional collaboration and the role of cultural initiatives in models of solidarity. By focusing on community building, it showcases how artists and cultural practitioners navigate institutional and grassroots frameworks to foster resilience and collective reinvention.

This year, La Biennale di Venezia’s decision to permit the participation of Russian and Israeli pavilions has sparked urgent questions about cultural narratives. In this context, Solidarity in Flux questions the lessons learned about solidarity, highlighting shared resilience and advancing conversations about power, truth, and institutional accountability.

Programme highlights
Solidarity in Flux intertwines history, culture, and politics to address political, social, economic, and cultural transitions in the Baltics and Central and Eastern Europe, particularly in light of the war in Ukraine. By integrating performance, visual art, and activism, the project encourages engagement among artists, curators and institutions, focusing on narratives of resilience and collective reinvention.

The programme features three Baltic artists: Jana Jacuka will share a fragment from HA, a solo performance exploring the performativity of laughter and extreme vocal practices; Agnė Bagdžiūnaitė will present a fragment of her performance The Remainder, which bridges archival storytelling and live performance, engaging with themes of memory, identity, and transition; and Maria Wrang Rasmussen’s cooking demonstration and love letter How Hard and Sweet, This Taste of Flesh uses the recipe as a performance score, addressing the delightful and irrational nature of desire through a process of transformation.

The performance programme will be extended by a panel discussion with speakers from the Baltics and Central and Eastern Europe: Eglė Grėbliauskaitė, Corina Oprea, Natala Sielewicz, and Peter Sit.

Please note: Registration is required to attend the programme. Places are limited.

Solidarity in Flux is organised by the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art (LCCA) in collaboration with the Estonian Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) and the National Gallery of Art (NDG). The programme is supported by the Baltic Culture Fund and the VV Foundation.
