On December 4, 2026, the tranzit․org network will bring together all of its member organizations for a single curated evening in Vienna. tranzit․org assembly vienna will be the culmination of a series of anniversary events held across Europe throughout 2026, and it is the one occasion for which the entire network will gather in a single room. The two-part evening event will take place at the Angewandte Interdisciplinary Lab (AIL) in the former Postsparkasse building designed by Otto Wagner, starting at 4:30pm. Admission is free of charge.
The program takes an interwoven form, combining two conversations with a series of shorter, more experimental artistic and performative contributions. The evening will bring together former and current members of tranzit, artists, editors, and invited guests.
“We are looking at how tranzit’s ideas and practices have evolved over the course of two decades as well as how we might rethink our relationship to the social, political, and environmental realities in which we work. The assembly is not a retrospective but an act of reflection: a moment to take stock of where society stands today and to explore how contemporary art can open up new ways of seeing, questioning, and imagining possible futures,” say the curators.
The program combines newly commissioned artistic contributions, two conversations with prolific curators and artists, and the first presentation in Austria of the anniversary book tranzit 20+. The individuals taking part include Sepake Angiama, Areej Ashhab, Miklós Erhardt, Gary Farrelly, Flóra Gadó, Borbála Soós, Ferenc Gróf & Zsófia Gyenes, Vít Havránek & Boris Ondreička, Maria Hlavajova, Eva Jiřička, Norbert Kuki, Livia Pancu, Eriola Pira, Alexandra Pirici, Johannes Porsch, and Kathrin Rhomberg.
The evening will be split into two parts, with a break for drinks and snacks in between. Part One runs from 4:30 to 7pm, followed by Part Two from 7:30 to 9:30pm. You are welcome to stay for the whole evening or join us for either part. The artists commissioned by curators of the tranzit organizations have treated the network’s current context and its archive as raw materials, revisiting past exhibitions, texts, places, and memories. Everything will take place within a display designed by artist Johannes Porsch.
The program was jointly curated and produced by members of the tranzit․org initiatives from Bratislava, Bucharest, Budapest, Cluj, Iași, Prague, and Vienna, namely Judit Angel, Judit Árva, Florin Bobu, Esther Brandl, Max Dvořák, Dóra Hegyi, Adelina Luft, Livia Pancu, Nela Pietrová, Georg Schöllhammer, Tereza Stejskalová, Botond Szilágyi, Attila Tordai-S., Ovidiu Țichindeleanu, and Raluca Voinea. The event will kick off a new phase of closer cooperation and more joint international projects across the network.
The evening is dedicated to the memory of Boris Marte. As the CEO of ERSTE Foundation, he played a crucial role in establishing the tranzit․org network as well as countless other important cultural, educational, and social initiatives.
