La Merde! The Mole!
Get tickets
Join us for a screening of Aline Bouvy’s La Merde and Jakub Jansa’s The Silence of the Mole, guest-curated by Peter Sit. Through grotesque humor, vulnerability, and exhaustion, these two films examine the politics of representation and the social mechanisms of shame and exclusion. Their protagonists inhabit bodies burdened with expectations, whether as a beloved national mascot or a figure of disgust. Each film considers how refusal and resistance emerge within these conditions, through silence, withdrawal, or the disruption of social conventions. Both films were created for the Luxembourg Pavilion and the Czech and Slovak Pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale. The screening will be followed by an in-person conversation with the artists moderated by Sit. Read more here.

With an Acre—an afternoon with the CCA
Get tickets
Join the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) as it returns to e-flux with an afternoon of film and conversation featuring a screening of With an Acre, the third chapter in the “Groundwork” series conceived and produced by the CCA. The film follows architect Carla Juaçaba as she develops a museum and community space in solidarity with a collective of smallholder farmers in Minas Gerais, Brazil, resisting extractive industrial agriculture. The film will be introduced by director Joshua Frank, and followed by a conversation with e-flux curator of film and video Lukas Brasiskis, e-flux Architecture deputy editor Nick Axel, CCA associate director, programs, Francesco Garutti, and curator and writer Ella den Elzen, exploring the use of film as a tool for curatorial research. Here, Already
Get tickets
Join us for a screening of films by Salad Hilowle, Ahmed Umar, Samira Elagoz, and Z Walsh, guest-curated by Power Ekroth. Love takes different forms here, from desire hidden in plain sight to intimacy across continents, and music plays a rather different, but equally important, role in each of the three films. In Salad Hilowle’s Passion of Remembrance, 1990s Swedish pop and television reveal the contradiction of being celebrated for contributions to popular culture while still being treated as outsiders because of xenophobia. In Ahmed Umar’s film Truth Bears No Scandal, queer desire, camouflaged within familiar Sudanese songs, is brought to the fore. In Samira Elagoz and Z Walsh’s You Can’t Get What You Want but You Can Get Me, music carries the excitement and longing of a love story unfolding across continents, with all the obstacles that distance brings. Moving from the public to the coded to the intimate, the works extend their antennae toward the society around them, reflecting on how the personal is political and how taking love and respect as guiding principles in life may be radical in its simplicity. The screening will be followed by a discussion between Ekroth, Elagoz, and Walsh. Read more here.

And the Dogs Were Silent: a convening by Sharifa Rhodes-Pitts
Get tickets
The African Film Institute is pleased to present And the Dogs Were Silent, a program convened by Sharifa Rhodes-Pitts. The program features three short films: Sarah Maldoror's Et les chiens se taisaient (And the Dogs Were Silent) (1978), Stan Lathan's Statues Hardly Ever Smile (1971), and Alain Resnais and Chris Marker's Les statues meurent aussi (Statues Also Die) (1953). Drawing on Aimé Césaire’s theatrical poem on the Haitian Revolution, these works confront colonial collections and museum holdings through acts of cultural reclamation and historical restoration. The screening will be followed by a conversation between Rhodes-Pitts and Christian Nyampeta. Read more here.

Theory of Seeing
Get tickets
Join us for a four-part film series translating Władysław Strzemiński’s Theory of Seeing (1958) to the language of moving images through new films by Wilhelm Sasnal, Mykola Ridnyi, Agnieszka Polska, and Anton Vidokle and Liam Gillick, with title sequences by Laura Pawela. The screening will be followed by a response from R.H. Quaytman. Commissioned by Muzeum Sztuki, the project does not aim merely to illustrate Strzemiński's theses, but to put them into practice under the premise that seeing is not an unchangeable ability, but a process shaped by history and the social conditions of life. Each era creates its own unique ways of seeing, and art participates in these transformations. Read more here.

Bar Laika presents Playback 0041 with Chantal Michelle
Join us at Bar Laika for the forty-first edition of Playback with Chantal Michelle, a composer and interdisciplinary artist whose work engages the spatial, tactile, and perceptual dimensions of sound. Her practice incorporates feedback systems, multichannel composition, and psychoacoustic phenomena to question the mutability of perception and its capacity to be disrupted or reconstructed. Her projects include site-responsive installations, hand-blown glass instruments, conceptual scores, and recorded works. Her latest album, All Things Might Spill (Shelter Press, 2026), stretches time into tense, long-held tones and clear melodic lines that resolve into suspended, dynamic soundscapes. Read more here.
