MACTE—Museo di Arte Contemporanea di Termoli announces the appointment of Rossella Farinotti as its new Artistic Director, effective December 1, 2026. Her programme will be announced following her arrival, with the first exhibition scheduled for February 2027.
Located in Termoli, in Italy's Molise region, MACTE promotes contemporary art and culture and cares for the collection of the Premio Termoli. Farinotti's practice brings together contemporary art, public space and community engagement, connecting curatorial research with the places and people through which it develops.
Farinotti was directly appointed by the Board of Directors and President Paolo De Matteis Larivera following a process initiated last spring. The Board recognised in her experience the expertise and vision needed to guide the Museum through its next phase of development.
She succeeds Caterina Riva, who has led MACTE since September 2020. The Museum thanks Riva for her invaluable work over two terms and her contribution to establishing its identity, programme and network of relationships.
“I welcome this appointment with enthusiasm and a sense of responsibility, and I would like to thank the President and the Board of Directors for their trust,” says Farinotti. “MACTE has an important history and has demonstrated how a museum can build relationships and create opportunities for knowledge and discovery rooted in the place where it operates. I want to build on this strength, approaching the Museum as a place that listens to Termoli and the people who live here, and creating new opportunities to engage with artists and their practices. Building on the work begun by Caterina Riva, I want to develop the Museum's potential and create new opportunities for research, collaboration and exchange, helping MACTE reach new milestones.”
The appointment comes as MACTE looks towards a proposed expansion, with plans for additional spaces for the conservation and display of artworks, a contemporary art library and improved accessibility. If realised, the project would support the further development of the Museum's exhibition, educational and research activities.
