Hours: Tuesday–Sunday 11am–5pm
Museum de Fundatie is looking for a curator of contemporary art with an inquiring mind, broad art-historical knowledge and an eye for international perspectives. You connect people and ideas, and you know how to enrich the collection and programme from new angles and make them relevant to diverse audiences.
Location: Zwolle / Heino. Hours: 36 hours per week.
Museum de Fundatie is one of the leading art museums in the Netherlands. From our locations in Zwolle and Heino, we bring people into contact with art, artists and new ideas. Through exhibitions, public programmes, education and research, we make art accessible to a broad audience and stimulate the conversation about the world of today.
We want to explore the museum of the future together with you and discuss questions such as: who is the museum for? How can we make art experienceable in different ways?
Our collection of more than 16,000 objects remains the starting point for research and for making exhibitions. Given the diversity of the collection—from the late Middle Ages to today, with objects from all kinds of countries—that is not difficult. At the same time, we look ahead: to new perspectives, new makers and new ways of giving art meaning.
Who are we looking for?
You are an experienced and curious curator with broad knowledge of contemporary art. You have an inquiring attitude, think critically and are open to a range of art-historical perspectives and stories. You know what is going on in the national and international art world and have a clear interest in the meaning of art in today's world. You also have knowledge of art beyond Europe and the US.
You take initiative, dare to experiment and see opportunities to approach the collection and programming from new angles. You combine an independent way of working with the ability to develop and realise ideas—your own and those of others—together with other people.
You are a collaborative colleague who easily makes contact with artists, researchers and other partners.
What do you bring?
–A completed academic degree in art history (at least MA level).
–At least three years of relevant work experience as a curator or in a comparable role within the museum or art sector.
–Demonstrable experience in art-historical research and in developing and realising exhibitions and publications.
–The ability to translate ideas and research results into engaging exhibitions, texts and audience-oriented presentations.
–Strong organisational and communication skills, with experience in project-based work and in keeping to schedules and budgets.
–A proactive and collaborative attitude, with the ability to initiate projects independently and to work together with colleagues and external partners.
–A relevant network in the national and international art world, or the skills and ambition to build one further.
–You have an excellent command of English, spoken and written, and can express yourself in Dutch at a basic level. You are willing to develop your Dutch language skills further.
What do we offer you?
–An intellectually challenging role within an ambitious and highly visible museum.
–An inspiring workplace in two unique locations: Museum de Fundatie in Zwolle and Kasteel het Nijenhuis in Heino.
–A one-year contract with the prospect of an extension and permanent employment.
–A salary according to scale 11 of the Museum collective labour agreement (Museum-cao), depending on knowledge and experience.
We are curious about your story
Museum de Fundatie wants to be a place where everyone feels welcome and seen. That is why we invite everyone to apply, regardless of background, age, gender, religion, neurodiversity or disability.
