The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw and the Tatra Museum in Zakopane announce the launch of a new online archive devoted to Władysław Hasior’s "Photo Notebooks."
Władysław Hasior (1928–99), widely known as an author of assemblages and monuments, worked on this unique project in Polish art from the mid-1960s (Gerhard Richter started his work on Atlas at the same time) until his death in 1999. The collection includes close to 20,000 slides.
Two of the most interesting cycles from this work can be defined as sociological photography. They are the notations from the 1970s, focused on the Polish iconosphere (mostly visual propaganda produced by the state, the church, and people) ("Wayside Poetry"), and on the aesthetic manifestations of modernization of Polish society and social class mobility ("Plebeian Art").
