The UN Peacebuilding Fund has advised and supported FAST on the choice of case studies. Two compelling case studies where the intersecting forces of climate and conflict are driving unprecedented migration patterns followed by innovative responses to displacement were identified in this process: Mauritania and Haiti. While Haiti presents a scenario of internal urban-to-rural migration driven by violence, socio-economic upheaval overlapping with continued extreme climate events, Mauritania exemplifies a markedly different trajectory rooted in its unique geopolitical, cultural, and ecological context. The focus of this study is on Mauritania.
