Founded in 2000 by Edouard Carmignac, the Fondation Carmignac manages both a contemporary art collection of over 300 works, and the Carmignac Photojournalism Award which supports an investigatory photo reportage every year.

In 2018, a 2000-square-meter art venue with a 15-hectare garden openend and now welcomes the public at the heart of a protected natural site on Porquerolles island. The Villa Carmignac offers a temporary exhibition every year as well as a cultural programme. It also has a number of permanent art works which were created specifically for the place.
