The Zimmerli Art Museum is a teaching museum and serves as a laboratory for learning that crosses disciplines and intellectual boundaries, benefitting both university audiences and the general public. In addition to organizing exhibitions drawn from a permanent collection of nearly 60,000 works of art (with strengths in American twentieth-century works on paper, French nineteenth-century prints, and Russian and Soviet nonconformist art), the Zimmerli hosts traveling exhibitions from other institutions. Free public programs – such as curator-led tours, artist talks, receptions, concerts, dance and theatrical performances, lectures, and symposia – complement artwork on view, as well as address broader topics in the arts. The museum also offers a range of educational programs and research opportunities, tailored to the needs of campus and community groups.
