Located at The Trinity Technology and Enterprise Centre, Charlotte Quay at Pearse Street, Dublin 2, the Arts Technology Research Lab (ATRL) is an interdisciplinary, postgraduate research centre of the School of Creative Arts at Trinity College, Dublin, designed to explore the emergent fields of creative arts practice and new technologies. ATRL senior scholars and postgraduate researchers innovate with unique practical methods while pursuing critical, historical and theoretical research in order to engage future art forms of digital culture that are networked, interactive, multimedia, hybrid, virtual, immersive and ubiquitous. ATRL draws on the synergies of the School of Creative Arts’ time-based disciplines of Drama, Film and Music performance in order to re-imagine inventive and hybrid artforms that transect: film and video; music and sound production; theatre, dance and live art; and visual, plastic and installation art, in a digitally empowered environment. In collaboration with the Schools of Computer Science and Engineering, ATRL brings the scientist, engineer and artist into dialogue to offer the widest range of experimental opportunities and academic rigor in the practice and study of digital culture and the arts. The research facility is administered under the creative arts ambit of Trinity College Dublin (the University of Dublin), which is ranked 1st in Ireland and in the top 100 world universities by the QS World University Rankings.
