Casa da Arquitetura is the only institution in Portugal dedicated exclusively to architecture, carrying out a wide range of activities that include regular exhibitions, hosting and managing collections, promoting the study and research of architects' work, and disseminating the social and cultural relevance of architecture to different audiences. It also promotes architectural tourism as a strategic asset for enhancing the value of the territory.
Based in Matosinhos, a few metres from the beach, the Casa da Arquitectura occupies the former block of the Real Vinícola — a heritage complex renovated by architect Guilherme Machado Vaz — covering a total area of around 5000 m² and comprising the Exhibition Hall, the House Gallery, the Luis Ferreira Alves and Álvaro Siza spaces, the Archive, the Casa Shop and support and service areas.
It is currently an essential reference point in the architectural, cultural and tourist landscape of the city of Matosinhos, the Metropolitan Area of Porto and the country, and is an award-winning and recognised example of industrial heritage restoration.
