Museo de Geología UNAM

The UNAM Geology Museum, located in the heart of the Santa María La Ribera neighborhood, houses Mexico's most important geological collections. It is a space that, in addition to safeguarding this important heritage, disseminates scientific knowledge in the Earth sciences. The majestic Porfirian building that houses the Geology Museum is located in the center of the Santa María La Ribera neighborhood. Its staircase and façade invite you to explore an institution also known as the Palace of Earth Sciences. The building is constructed from quarry stone obtained and brought from Los Remedios, State of Mexico, the same stone used to build the Mining Palace and the Colegio de San Ildefonso. Its ignimbrite façade, a type of volcanic rock, is decorated with high and low relief figures of fossil fish, shells, and reptiles.
