Established in 2000 and officially recognised as a body acting in the public interest in 2005, the François Schneider Foundation is committed to a dual objective: to support students by granting scholarships for higher education in Alsace and the Yonne, but also to promote contemporary artistic creation.
Its art centre, inaugurated in 2013, occupies the former bottling plant in the village of Wattwiller and is entirely devoted to the theme of water. Each year, its programme showcases this fundamental element through temporary exhibitions, tackling the multi-faceted subject of water from a plastic, poetic, aesthetic, geographical, political and scientific standpoint.
An adjoining sculpture garden also offers an art trail in which the permanent collection of 20th- and 21st-century works by the likes of Niki de Saint Phalle, Pol Bury and Renaud Auguste-Dormeuil are in dialogue with nature. A place where water is not only a resource but an inexhaustible source of inspiration.
