City of Gothenburg

Göteborg Konst works with public art, both indoors and outdoors in the city of Gothenburg. The unit is part of the Department of Culture and Social Development within the City of Gothenburg’s Cultural Administration.

Göteborg Konst leads processes for both smaller and larger-scale artistic commissions in the city’s public spaces. The operations include an art collection, the Charles Felix Lindberg Donation Fund, the Per and Alma Olsson Elementary School Fund, register management, and the coordination of the one percent rule for the city’s wholly owned companies and administrations.

To ensure that art plays a prominent role in the city's urban development, the unit collaborates closely with a wide range of actors within the public sector and civil society. The unit actively works with issues of gender equality and diversity, which are fundamental to the relevance of art in society.

The operations are based on democratic principles and a belief that art is a fundamental part of society and should be accessible to all. Art can shift perspectives and boundaries and help us understand our history, present, and future. An unexpected art experience can make everyday life more meaningful.
