La Salle has been a paradigmatic institution in the management of change since our birth more than 300 years ago. We have shown how to accompany the transformations and development of society during these last three centuries through action and involvement, always evaluating the circumstances of the moment and giving the best response based on our values while deploying our mission. We are now at a turning point where the answers to many of these challenges demand a certain urgency.

From La Salle Campus Barcelona we are rethinking the future of university education so that it has an impact on a comprehensive improvement of society as a whole. In addition to being aware of the need to promote a sustainable and ecological future - and present - we have taken action.

The School of Architecture of La Salle (ETSALS) has a consolidated trajectory of more than 20 years. Lead by internationally recognized names such as Josep Ferrando (Dean) and Jordi Mansilla (Vice-Dean), our pedagogical approach is focused on two disciplinary areas that converge in the teaching of design. On the one hand, the knowledge of materials and tectonic systems that order the building, from the structure to the skin; on the other hand, the study of the cultural framework, the physical, physiological and historical landscape of the architectural project, providing it with an indispensable intellectual content.

The teaching of Architecture is based, in short, on an abstract knowledge that includes the thought and the interpretation of what is looked at and critically analyzed, in order to be able to build later on.

The architect is a constructor of objects [something that occupies a place], but above all he or she is a constructor of gaps [something that becomes a place].

Josep Ferrando is an internationally awarded architect. His work has been exhibited in several countries and he has held monographic exhibitions on his work. He has developed an intense teaching career since 1998 as a professor of projects in numerous European and American universities. He has also lectured at prestigious universities such as GSD Harvard, MIT Massachusetts, Cornell University, Cooper Union.

Winner of the FAD awards, nominated for the Mies Europe and Mies America awards, winner of the XV Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism, winner of the International Biennial of Architecture of Buenos Aires BIABA’15 and BIABA’ 22 and finalist of the Yakov Chernikov International Award. He is director of the Open Center of Architecture of the College of Architects of Catalonia.
