The Mainz School of Music is part of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Such integration is unique in Germany and the university’s extensive facilities are also open to music students, such as a comprehensive sports program, free visits to the opera, Studium Generale, etc.

Professional musicians have been trained in Mainz for over 60 years. All classical orchestral instruments, opera and concert singing, organ, as well as jazz and baroque music are taught. There are numerous ensembles, a well-developed recording studio and other facilities. Unique in Germany is the study course Sound Art-Composition. The exeptional combination of artistic practice, research, and teaching gives the Mainz School of Music an outstanding profile.

The city of Mainz is located in a lively, cosmopolitan environment and is a media and business hub of international importance. The Rhine-Main region (with the cities Frankfurt, Wiesbaden)  also has much to offer culturally: four opera houses, numerous theaters, symphony orchestras, choirs, festivals and two public television and radio stations.

When making music, it is natural for people to work together across national borders. That’s why the university fosters a welcoming culture and fellow students from all countries are valued and seen as an enrichment to life on campus.
