UC Irvine Langson Orange County Museum of Art brings together two distinguished institutions to form one of California’s most comprehensive centers for the study, presentation, and experience of art.
In 2017, UC Irvine established the Institute and Museum of California Art with the acquisition of the Irvine Museum Collection and the Gerald Buck Collection. Four years later, it was renamed the Jack and Shanaz Langson Institute and Museum of California Art (Langson IMCA), honoring the Langsons’ transformational support for a future on-campus facility. Langson IMCA stewarded more than 4,500 works spanning California Impressionism, plein air painting, Post-War experimentation, and contemporary practice.
In 2025, UC Irvine completed its acquisition of the Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA), a contemporary art leader with a landmark 53,000-square-foot facility at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. Since opening its current building in 2022, OCMA has drawn national attention for innovative exhibitions and ambitious commissions, building on its legacy of presenting the California Biennial and championing new voices.
Together, the unified museum now holds more than 9,000 works and serves as a vibrant hub for exhibitions, performances, educational initiatives, and community engagement. Across its sites in Irvine and Costa Mesa, the museum offers rotating exhibitions drawn from its permanent collections and loans, interdisciplinary collaborations with UC Irvine faculty and students, and public programs designed to spark dialogue and foster connection.
