Sammlung Zander

The Zander Collection is a nonprofit organization. Built over more than six decades by Charlotte Zander (1930–2014), it is one of the most important collections of so-called “naïve art.” The collection also includes works of art brut, “outsider art,” and tattoo art.

Solo and group exhibitions of renowned as well as unknown or forgotten artists represented in the collection are mounted on a regular basis in the dedicated exhibition space in Cologne. The shows embed these works in contemporary discourses as well as their historical contexts.

The mission of today’s Zander Collection is to build visibility for so-called “naïve art,” promoting fresh research into the works and their art-historical contexts and a reassessment of their significance. The collection collaborates with international institutions, curators, and scholars to contribute to the incipient revision of the art-historical canon and to help chart a more global, diverse, and multiperspectival history of art.
