Bohusläns Museum

The Contemporary Art Space at Bohusläns Museum is located in Uddevalla, on the west coast of Sweden. Operating within one of the region’s major cultural institutions, it presents a curated programme of solo and group exhibitions with an emphasis on curatorial depth, artistic risk, and long-term relationships with artists.

The programme is driven by a conviction that artistic integrity and genuine accessibility are not competing demands but two aspects of the same commitment. Exhibitions are developed through extended processes with artists—giving space to work that requires time, context, and room to fail—and are accompanied by public programmes, artist talks, and pedagogical initiatives aimed at opening the encounter between art and audience rather than explaining it away.

Situated in a region with a distinct coastal and borderland identity, the Contemporary Art Space draws on its local grounding while actively participating in broader national and international conversations. The institution maintains particular commitments to commission-based production and to a collection policy guided by the same criteria as its exhibition programme: formal rigour, contextual relevance, and the capacity to generate genuine aesthetic experience.
