Chair of Fundamentals of Architecture (F-ARCH) at the Technical University Dortmund

F-ARCH has been headed by Prof. Matthias Ballestrem since 2024. The chair’s main teaching task is to introduce Bachelor’s students to architectural design. The main research topics include the methodology of design-based research and how existing buildings should be represented, described, and interpreted to do justice to a complex, multi-layered reality and provide a basis for design from and with the existing.
