You are cordially invited to e-flux on Monday, January 9 at 7pm for Writing on Raving: afters edition, presenting readings and performances by Ev Delafose, Jesús Hilario-Reyes (aka MORENXXX), Journey Streams, and Ricky Tucker in celebration of the launch of e-flux journal issue #132: Black Rave.
Ev Delafose is an MA Fashion Studies student at Parsons School of Design. Their research focuses heavily on Black queer and trans art, design, and fashion practices.
Jesús Hilario-Reyes (aka MORENXXX) is an artist currently based in New York, practicing at the crossroads of sonic performance, land installation, and expanded cinema, and examining carnival and rave culture, the effects of destierro (or being “torn from the land”), and Black and queer fugitivy.
Journey Streams is an arts producer, writer, and curatorial steward interested in nightlife’s impact on bodies, cities, and other spaces. She received her BA from Yale University in 2022.
Ricky Tucker is a writer, educator, art critic, and North Carolina native based in Brooklyn, and author of And the category is…. His work explores the imprints of art and memory on narrative, and the absurdity of most fleeting moments.
Writing on Raving is a reading and performance series curated by Zoë Beery, Geoffrey Mak, and McKenzie Wark. The series opens a space for critical thinking, creative language, and verbal performance that celebrates, critiques, contextualizes, and vibe-checks the rave, the club, the dance floor, and techno from diverse and unheard perspectives.
e-flux journal is a monthly art publication featuring writings by some of the most engaged artists and thinkers working today. Its Issue #132: Black Rave (December 2022) is guest-edited by madison moore and McKenzie Wark, and features contributions by madison moore, McKenzie Wark, Blair Black, Alexander Ghedi Weheliye, Dion McKenzie aka TYGAPAW, Jasmine Infiniti, Julian Kevon Glover, Leo Felipe, Eva Pensis, Kumi James aka BAE BAE, Tavia Nyong’o, Jesús Hilario-Reyes aka MORENXXX, and Femanyst. –Two flights of stairs lead up to the building’s front entrance at 172 Classon Avenue.
–For elevator access, please RSVP to program@e-flux.com. The building has a freight elevator which leads into the e-flux office space. Entrance to the elevator is nearest to 180 Classon Ave (a garage door). We have a ramp for the steps within the space.
–e-flux has an ADA-compliant bathroom. There are no steps between the event space and this bathroom.
