Bar Laika presents Playback 0022 with Debit and Carrier

Join us at Bar Laika on Wednesday, November 5th from 6pm for the twenty-second edition of Playback with Debit and Carrier. Both artists will feature their new solo albums on the record label Modern Love.

Debit is a composer, producer, and performer whose work spans avant-garde experimentation, global club mutations, and site-specific art. Her practice bridges high-concept composition with visceral club performance, uniting cultural depth with bold sonic experimentation. Since 2017, she has been a pioneering force in recontextualizing Latin American club music, shaping its global reception before it became a trend. She pushed sounds from underground spaces into dialogue with techno, global bass, and experimental electronics, building a blueprint for cross-cultural innovation that challenged the scene’s hierarchies. Her records are research-driven and conceptually rigorous. Animus, System, and The Long Count (named by The Guardian as the #3 Best Global Album of 2022) expanded the vocabulary of electronic music through projects like AI-driven reconstructions of pre-Hispanic wind instruments. Her upcoming release, Desaceleradas (Modern Love, Nov 7, 2025), reimagines 1990s cumbia rebajada mixtapes from Monterrey, layering archival material with ARP 2600 synthesis, accordion, and granular processes. Carrier is Guy Brewer’s outlet for pressure, space, and restraint, a project that privileges atmosphere over genre rules. The catalogue moves between implied rhythm, degraded texture, and carefully eroded atmospheres, developing a language defined as much by absence as by presence. This sensibility reaches a new scale on Brewer’s first full-length as Carrier, Rhythm Immortal. Across the album, fractured syncopations intertwine with weightless ambience, expanding the project’s contours into something both elegant and raw. It shifts between hypnagogic drift and knife-edge rhythmic tension, a definitive statement that anchors Carrier’s evolving sound. Taken together, the works under the Carrier name outline a precise, atmospheric practice: lean on the surface, heavy underneath, always edging forward while resisting the pull of easy resolution. Carrier will perform live on November 6 at Pioneer Works for Durations Festival.
