Teocalli

In the center of the rising Temple, the history, ancestral myths, the infrareal, and the Nahual tradition combine their rhythms into the cyclical life of ritual cinema. Trance and shamanic visions arise into the ancient Teocalli.

The Nahual, as an audiovisual entity and ancestral knowledge, is a rhythmic centralizer that provides dance, trance, and ritual. The initiatory and initial entity that, like ancestral knowledge, is neither analyzable nor deconstructable and, therefore, is initial and initiatory, threading part of the images and sounds, which precipitates the ritual, the alliances, the liturgy, and the dance.

The music was composed by Joao Pais Filipe, and was presented in February 2024 at Batalha Centro de Cinema in Porto during a performance that accompanied a screening of the film.

Teocalli is presented alongside Coyote​ as part of the June 2025 edition of e-flux Film’s series Staff Picks featuring Colectivo Los Ingrávidos.
