By unearthing the Super-8 amateur film Donne emergete! (1975) by Isabella Bruno—irreparably damaged according to archival criteria—Undead Voices exposes the marginalization of “minor cinemas” and reveals the dispersion of material culture arising from the social struggles in Italy in the 1970s, as well as the disregard surrounding the work of the first women filmmakers associated with the feminist movement. Undead Voices emphasises the spectral, hauntological quality of cinema and becomes an experiment with its potential for reanimation. The film creates a temporality in which past and present feminist artistic practices can resonate together across time.
