Screen Takeover reflects on contemporary digital culture and how technology and media allow the lives of others to enter our world and, at times, inhabit it. In these works, artists show us the world as seen through a portable device screen, which seems to have been possessed by an invisible person, a virus, or an abstract entity.
Featuring Simon Fujiwara, Hello (2015); Toshio Matsumoto, Relation (1982); Riar Rizaldi, Kasiterit (2019); Jesse McLean, Wherever You Go, There We Are (2017); Tiffany Sia, Do Not Circulate (2021).
Screen Takeover is the fifth chapter of the online program Takeover curated by Julian Ross for e-flux Video & Film, and unfolding in six chapters between September 22 and December 15, 2022, with the films and videos of each chapter streaming for two weeks.
This chapter also features an online discussion with artists Ephraim Asili, Tiffany Sia, and Sriwhana Spong moderated by film scholar and writer May Adadol Ingawanij, to be broadcast on Saturday, November 19 at 1pm ET.
