Paradoxical Sleep is the third of four chapters of the film program TUTTAUNANOTTE, curated by Francesco Urbano Ragazzi, featuring Anna Franceschini, Before They Break, Before They Die, They Fly! (2014, 5 minutes), Ludovica Carbotta, Monowe (2023, 45 minutes), RM, Two Actions United in One Frame (2024, 10 minutes), Michela de Mattei & Invernomuto, Paraflu (2025, 23 minutes), Tomaso De Luca, Desperate Times (2022, 17 minutes). What kind of sleep would it be without dreams? The five films featured in the third section of the program open up to narratives that follow no logic other than their own. On screen, everything comes alive–objects, animals, people, and images–producing aesthetics that respond not so much to surrealist contradiction as to the plausible miracle of psychedelia. Many tricks dear to both old and new cinema are employed: from magnetism to mechanical miniatures, from animation to artificial intelligence.
