Domaine de Boisbuchet is an international research centre for design, architecture, arts and nature, in Charente, southwest France running under the non for profit organisation of CIRECA (International Centre for Research and Cultural and Agricultural Education) since 1986.
The campus is conceived as an architectural park of historic and contemporary innovative buildings surrounded by 150 hectares of protected nature: forest, pasture, a river, a small lake, unpolluted flora and fauna.
Over the years, reputed designers, architects and artists have been invited to hold their courses and share their practice here with students and other practitioners in all areas of applied creativity.
Domaine de Boisbuchet was founded by Alexander von Vegesack, cultural entrepreneur and collector, as well as founding director of the Vitra Design Museum, which he directed until 2012. His private design collection is also preserved here together with his library and archive with over 25.000 volumes on design and related studies, which feed research and curatorial activities.
Summer workshops, creative residencies, as well as exhibitions and other events, create an exceptional environment where to develop innovative design practices with a collaborative and cross-cultural perspective in close connection with nature.
