College of Saint Benedict Literary Arts Institute serving the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University (LAI) is an extension of Saint Ben’s commitment to creativity and the arts. Writing is central to the liberal arts, and creative writing has always flourished at the College. The Literary Arts Institute was established in 1997 as part of Saint Benedict’s tradition of supporting writing in all forms, to create connections to publishing on a local and national level, and to promote interactions between students and writers.

Signature programs
Through partnerships with Graywolf Press and others, LAI is able to bring writers together with readers on campus, in the Twin Cities, and beyond. LAI brings nationally-recognized authors to the College through Writers Writing, promotes literary events, and holds summer conferences such as Inside Books.
