Experimental open-mindedness in creative and artistic work, an interdisciplinary dialogue and pioneering work in applied and fine arts make up the core values of the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design (ABK Stuttgart). With 22 academic study programmes in Architecture, Fine Arts, Art Education, Design and Conservation – Art History, the ABK Stuttgart provides a broad spectrum of educational and research opportunities to approximately 900 students.

Distinguished by interdisciplinarity as well as diversity and internationality, the Academy offers an outstanding teaching and learning environment. Students work in small courses with more intensive support from professors and the collaborations amongst various study programmes encourage interdisciplinary exchange and innovative ideas. Teaching is focussed on developing students’ creative and artistic skills as well as on imparting technical and professional knowledge. Another Academy trademark are the over thirty workshop facilities that allow students to implement their ideas and concepts using traditional as well as digital techniques.

The ABK Stuttgart provides experimental ground to the unity of teaching and research and promotes innovation in art and design, nonetheless placing great emphasis on academically sound teaching programmes. Outstanding artists can participate in the postgraduate Weissenhof programme of Fine Arts to further their artistic careers with excellent mentorships and collaboration opportunities. Exhibitions, lectures, symposia and publications keep the Academy actively involved in the aesthetic discourse of our time. Additionally, contacts with universities from all over the world reinforce the international focus, helping students to establish a broad professional network for their future endeavours.
