During the past 128 years, Tokyo University of the Arts (TUA), the only national art university in Japan, has played a vital role in exploring Asian art traditions and has developed a leadership in art and culture, with a large number of its prominent graduate alumni conducting significant practice in East Asia, and beyond.

Located in the heart of Tokyo, in the cultural quarter of Ueno Park where museums and cultural activities attract several million visitors a year, TUA encourages its students to collaboratively self-direct an annual Student Art Festival in which inter-disciplinary teams of commencing students begin their artistic explorations by creating portable shrines with iconic forms that are paraded through Ueno Park and vicinity.  Now, TUA is broadening its focus - vigorously entering into the global arena with its diverse cultural values and artistic expressions.
