Hampshire College is a private liberal arts college in Amherst, Massachusetts. Widely known for its alternative curriculum, the College opened in 1970 as an experiment in bold, influential—even radical—higher education, in association with four other colleges in the Pioneer Valley: Amherst College, Smith College, Mount Holyoke College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. At Hampshire, education focuses on personalized, independent work, close collaboration with faculty, and the belief that the questions that drive students should drive their education.

Now entering its fifth year, Hampshire College offers a variety of summer academic programs that link cutting edge work in the arts to experimental practices in the humanities and sciences. Open to current undergraduates, graduates, post-B.A.s, professionals, and rising high school juniors and seniors, our summer programs provide students with a distillation of Hampshire’s rigorous, hands-on educational approach in immersive experiences. Summer academic programs are designed to reflect Hampshire’s academic philosophy by linking critical engagement to experience-based education. This year’s programs will include the award winning Institute for Curatorial Practice; the Institute for Linguistics, Image and Text; Ecojustice, Education and Artistic Practice; Screenwriting for Film and Video; and the Institute for Transforming Social Justice.
