Dortmunder Kunstverein is a non-profit public center for contemporary art founded in 1984 in Dortmund, Germany, aiming to promote and discuss the work of young national and international artists. With four to six exhibitions per year, it is an important place for exchange, discussion and community relations in the city. The exhibitions are curated by the team and are complemented by a special program including talks with invited artists and theorists, performances, guided visits, film screenings, lectures and publications. It provides an open platform for discussions and relevant contemporary discourse on art and society.
As a member-based association, Dortmunder Kunstverein not only offers a space of experimentation for young artists and curators, but it is also a space for witnessing artistic production: Members can be in an active and direct contemporaneity with artists and other culturally interested audiences and find relevant exchange on the topics that move us.
The Kunstverein has hosted first institutional solo exhibitions in Germany by later reknown artists such as Lena Henke, Sol Calero, Caroline Achaîntre, Jannis Marwitz, Naama Arad, Elaine Cameron-Weir and many others.
