Master of Fine Arts in Studio Arts
The MFA at MECA is a trimester graduate program focused on the development of cross-disciplinary, research-intensive practices articulated through studio production, curatorial experimentation, and critical writing. It is the first in North America to offer a flexible 60-credit graduate program where students choose Low, Medium, or High Residency options for the completion of their degree. All students attend summer intensive semesters in Maine with Core faculty and an exceptional roster of international Visiting Artists and Curators. High Residency students work in the MECA studios during winter and spring semesters while Medium Residency students return to their home studios to carry out studio and academic coursework. A dynamic teaching website allows students to access the MFA curriculum any time, anywhere in the world. Personal Studio Advisers are assigned to all full-time students throughout the year no matter where they live. A new part-time, Low Residency option will allow mature artists to gain their graduate degrees over four intensive summer residencies in Maine. An additional series of new electives in Independent Curating will be offered for those students who wish to expand their practice to embrace alternative models of production and interpretation. The MFA encourages individuals to research stimulating source material for their practice and to become articulate and passionate translators of material, intellectual, and analytical experience both within and outside the studio.

Post-Baccalaureate in Art Education
Get certified in Maine. Teach anywhere. The Post Baccalaureate Art Education Program at MECA is an accredited, state-approved, full-time, ten-month program, which blends the worlds of artist and educator. The curriculum offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with artists, community leaders, and art educators to develop a uniquely personal philosophy and practice of teaching. The program includes service learning, community art and student teaching in public, private and alternative schools. Upon successfully completing the program and passing the Praxis exams, students will be eligible to be certified art educators in Maine and all other states.

Pre-College
Pre-College at MECA provides an opportunity for high school students to participate in an intensive month-long program in art. The program offers an immersion of life and education in a professional college of visual arts, as well as the opportunity to develop a portfolio and earn college credit. Choose one of five majors – painting, graphic design, photography, ceramics, or sculpture – and work with that medium in-depth. The curriculum also includes foundation classes in drawing and design that help students improve their technical skills and strengthen their portfolio for admission to the country’s foremost schools of art and design. Studio work is complemented by art history and workshops with visiting artists.
