2010 sees the 15th edition of MiArt, which will be celebrated with a packed programme of fringe events. As last year, the fair will produce an exhibition to be held in Milan’s Pavilion of Contemporary Art (PAC). This year, the Pavilion will be host to IBRIDO (Hybrid) – The genetics of art forms, a collective exhibition that aims to capture the hybridisation of society, through the anticipatory power of art. The exhibition, curated by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio and Francesco Garutti, contains site-specific installations and works that study the relationship between art, society and the new media. Hybridised forms enable change and capture transformation as it happens: this is why the exhibition contains lots of other potential exhibitions and is a repository of many possible worlds.

In the trade fair, MiArt has entered into partnerships whose aim is to carry out a programme of practical support for artists and contemporary art. For the second year running, the Purchase Fund of the AmicidiMiArt (Friends of MiArt) association will select from the works on show those to be purchased and donated to the city of Milan. For young artists there will be the Milano Brera Rotary Club Prize for contemporary art and young artists, which will choose the best photographic work by an artist under 35. This work will be purchased and will go to be part of the AmicidiMiArt Association’s collection. As such, it will go towards the collection of Milan’s new Museum of Contemporary Art, under construction. A similar desire to support contemporary art with practical assistance is behind the activities of Acacia, an association of Italian collectors that in 2003 endowed the ACACIA Award. In 2010, for the first time, the Award will be associated with MiArt. The winner will be announced at the press conference, which opens the fair. In that moment, a personal exhibition, entitled INVITO and dedicated to the winner of the Award, will be opened to visitors from the art world. The exhibition will be held at the home of one of ACACIA’s members.

The catalogue for MiArt 2010 will not only be a guide to the fair, but will also contain photos by Armin Linke, who has portrayed the forgotten architecture of Milan, with all its elegant functional details. But the story of MiArt is also the history of its galleries – and it is to these important players on the Italian and international art scenes that MiArt’s catalogue is dedicated. So for the 2010 edition, Giorgio Verzotti has produced the first of a series of articles that narrate the story of Milan’s galleries, through the history of art, and vice versa. And MiArt will be a total cultural experience: within the art fair, Milovan Farronato will chair De Arte Disputatio: face-to-face encounters, conferences and performances which will become regular appointments and an opportunity for discussion among artists, gallery owners, curators, critics and collectors – to create and again bring back passion to the heart of the art market.
