Spend summer or fall in the Canadian Rocky Mountains at an artist residency or symposium for professional artists, curators, and arts researchers.

Trainings for the Not-Yet
July 22–August 23
Apply by April 17
This thematic residency led by faculty Jeanne van Heeswijk will focus on research, community learnings, theoretical frameworks, performative workshops, artworks, learning objects, and conversations. In this program designed for artists, community organizers, researchers, and curators, we will develop a toolkit for a future of being together, otherwise.

Applicants should have completed formal training in visual arts or a field related to this program at the post-secondary level, and should demonstrate a history of exhibitions, publications, and projects.

Banff International Curatorial Symposium: Living Agreement
August 6–9
Apply by May 1
This symposium is an invitation to learn from artists, curators, and creative practitioners. Drawing on the work of artist Carmen Papalia and his proposal to consider accessibility as a temporary and relational practice, the symposium asks how the triangulated relationships between artists, audiences, and institutions might be re-thought as a “living agreement.”

Curators, art historians, writers and theorists, cultural critics, and researchers working in visual arts are invited to apply.

Banff International Curatorial Institute Fellowship
September 16–December 6
Apply by May 1
This new fellowship supports established curators, arts writers, cultural critics, researchers, and artists in focusing deeply on the development of their work. The program allows for self-directed research over an extended period of 12 weeks, within a creative and intellectually stimulating environment.

The BICI Fellowship is open to mid- to senior-level curators, arts writers, cultural critics, researchers, and artists exploring original topics within visual arts.

Preparatorial Practicum
Apply by May 29
This program offers the participant hands-on opportunities working alongside the Walter Phillips Gallery’s preparator and curator. Direct mentorship and support is provided to develop the participant’s skills in preventative conservation, art handling, installation techniques, and museum standards in environmental conditions.

Recent graduates of studio-based programs are welcome to apply.

Walter Phillips Gallery exhibition: Carry Forward
February 2–April 28
This exhibition brings together artworks that propose different modes of understanding how realities are registered, contested, and even fabricated within the framework of an archive.

Join us for an exhibition tour on March 27 at 5pm, or visit during regular gallery hours, Wednesday to Sunday from 12:30 to 5pm
