With its renewed image and dynamic artistic programme, ARCOmadrid_2009 will take place in the Spanish capital between 11th and 16th February 2009. Characterised by its strong international dimension and the high stature of its participating galleries, the fair will once again make Madrid a key centre for the contemporary art market and a meeting forum for all those interested in the latest artistic developments.

One of the most outstanding aspects at this new edition will be the attendance of India as Guest Country, within the framework of the section known as Panorama: India. A total of 13 galleries will offer visitors an insight into the art scene and the latest trends and developments in India, a country that, over the last year, has become one of the most interesting and dynamic focal-points for the contemporary art market. This vibrant and innovative art scene is characterised by the cultural wealth and strong identity of Indian creators, whose value has shot up in recent times.

Alongside this attractive fare, the fair will base its appeal on the GENERAL PROGRAMME and its section known as ARCO40, featuring the participation of a total of 223 international galleries this year. The curator-led projects known as SOLO PROJECTS, EXPANDED-BOX and PERFORMING ARCO, the latter devoted to performance art, will complete the fair’s comprehensive overview of the contemporary art scene, reflecting the innovative developments that are taking place in twenty-first century art.

The exhibition programme itself will be complemented by an endless series of activities that have been organised to coincide with the staging of the fair. Thus, the conferences that form part of the INTERNATIONAL FORUM OF EXPERTS ON CONTEMPORARY ART, alongside a number of press conferences, celebrations and presentations, will all confirm the important role that ARCOmadrid_ 2009 plays as a must event for the contemporary art market and the world of culture at an international level.
