Carrie Moyer: Terra Incognita

Madragoa is delighted to present Terra Incognita, the first solo exhibition of Carrie Moyer at the gallery. 

Growing up on the West Coast of America, Carrie Moyer has described her relationship with nature as an “ecstatic experience”, suggestive of an intense, almost spiritual appreciation for the environment. Bodily and yet also something else, her recent body of work builds upon a collection of biomorphic forms which embody a quasi-prehistoric quality, like art that reaches to the present from a deep past. In one painting, the curving form of a leaf might also be a breast, while in another the jutting forms could be stones or organs, yet across the series a plethora of textures, colours and marks point to landscape and architecture. —Chris Hayes
